Miss Esther Twente, professor of social work at the University of Kansas, was honored May 6 when the announcement was made of establishment of the Esther Twente Fund at the university. Miss Twente has been a resident of Marion County the past two years while directing the Ford Foundation’s research and demonstration program in Marion County on the “Golden Years.”

The marriage of Harriet Jean Miller and Laverne E. Bina was solemnized April 27 in St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen.

Six babies born this week at St. Luke Hospital include James Lewis, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Hedges of Florence, Justin Dennis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Youk of Durham, LaCinda Rae, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Day of Sedgwick, Lisa Diane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Gordon of Marion, Tena Marie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Bezdek of Marion, and Russell Wayne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Britton of Florence.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Koch celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary May 12 with a family gathering at the Marion County Lake recreation hall.
