A major business transaction of general interest to Marion and elsewhere has been announced by officials of the Marion National Bank. Two well known El Dorado men, Gene Payer and Matthew Classen, and John I. Loomis of Jewell have purchased a major interest in the bank here, effective July 15.

Cub Scout Den 1 held a backyard camp at the Wayne Colle home on Tuesday. Using the hobo theme, the boys used cardboard to build their camp. Den members are Brent Colle, Mike Good, Mark Kline, Brad Turk, Billy Newlin and Doug Keazer.

James S. Kline, former Marion County Sheriff and an agent of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been appointed to serve as head of a new and expanded peace officers training program at the University of Kansas.

The new drinking fountain, an electric refrigeration unit built into an old-fashioned stone well, is a fine new addition to the park. It was financed by the Coterie Club, with labor donated by several townsmen.

Kathy Costello, Susan Marler and Susan Hansen hiked to Hillsboro Saturday. The girls are earning the foot travel badge for Girl Scouts.
