Marion City Commission has let a contract for the construction of a new water treatment plant with work to start about Aug. 1. The contract, let to Walters Construction Co. of Manhattan, is for $219,050.00. The wiring sub-contract was let to Kenneth Rigler of Marion.

Francis May has been hired as a new relief-policeman for the City of Marion. May will work most of his time as a policeman, but will also run the street sweeper on Thursday night of each week.

Sydney Flying Service is offering airplane rides at Marion Municipal Airport starting at 1 p.m. July 4.

Two young ladies from Pilsen are enjoying vacation time this summer. Laurie and Kay Vinduska are offering accordion lessons each Saturday in the dining room of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Klein of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Joyce, to Jerry Olsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Olsen of Marion. A fall wedding is planned.

The “Look Who’s Here” column this week announces the birth of a daughter, Leslie Gayle, to Mr. and Mrs. Larry J. Burkholder on June 15 and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theo R. Holub on July 3.
