The thrill that comes but once in only a few golfer’s lifetime came Tuesday evening to 14-year-old Mike Wood when his 8-iron tee shot on No. 8 at Marion Country Club hit on the edge of the green and rolled straight into the hole for an ace—a hole in one!

Henry Metzler is busy this week remodeling his café building at the corner of Main and Freeborn. Robert Hamm, who will also continue to operate the former Timbo Drive-In at the west edge of town, has rented it.

Patricia Ray Longhofer, bride-elect of Richard L. McLinden was guest of honor at a bridal shower July 27 at St. Mark’s Activity Center. Hostess for the evening was Mrs. John H. Mehl.

Melody Thompson was hostess to a ‘’come as you are” breakfast Wednesday morning honoring her 16th birthday. Those present to enjoy breakfast on the Thompson veranda were Joyce Frans, Barbara Christensen, Carol Caselman, Linda Bauman and Neva Kelsey.

Winners in the Pee Wee League tournament, the finals played Tuesday evening, was the Marion County Record team coached and managed by Bill Finke. Team members are Ricky Schwendiman, Mike Thomas, Steve Widler, Billy Finke, Jim Magathan, Billy Newlin, Eddie Griffith, Dennis Helmer, Monty Magathan, Doug Helmer, Randy Perkins and John Higgins.
