Top honor among the county elementary school spellers on Wednesday went to Tom Poppe of Lincolnville. His runner-up contender was Francine Ratzloff of Goessel. Third place went to Mary Jo Stika of Pilsen. Raymon Maginnes of Marion was fourth.

Mrs. Gail Merrill graciously opened her home to members of Twentieth Century Club Monday evening where she had on display her many antique hats. She told of how she started her collection and how she acquired most of them.

Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Herbel entertained Saturday evening with a party honoring their son, Brad, on his first birthday.

Born this week at St. Luke Hospital were Kyle Dean, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mayginnes of Marion, Robyn Susanne, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R.L. Novak of Lost Springs, Kelli Mae McDaniel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harley H. McDaniel of Hope, and Stephen Edward, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill E. Olsen of Marion.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heerey Sr. of Marion will be guests of honor at an open house at St. Mark’s Activity Center April 6 in observance of their 40th wedding anniversary.

The MarBowl team won top honors in the Marion City Women’s Bowling tournament completed this weekend. Doubles winners were Eloise Mueller and Harriet Bina. Ida Backhus was the singles winner and all events went to J. Stetler.
