The job of completely remodeling and modernizing the former Oyer building at the corner of Third and Main streets, purchased recently by Jackson’s Clothing Company for their new store, starts in earnest this week.

Marion County’s two Babe Ruth teams, Marion’s south half and Tampa’s north half, have won berths in the State Babe Ruth tournament starting Saturday at Cottonwood Falls.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klein of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Kathleen Ann, to William E. Goentzel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Goentzel, also of Marion. No wedding date has been set.

Girl Scout Troop 63 had a surprise farewell party for Luanne Redfearn Thursday afternoon at the Jim Druse home. Those present were Linda Bernhardt, Cindy Druse, Joan Elling, Cindy Highsmith, Betty Linn, Joanne Lunderman, Paula Mayginnes, Ruth Morse, Cherri Ottensmeier, Brenda Richmond, Cherie Weddle, and Linda Wray.

Bridal showers reported this week include those complimenting Naomi Stenzel, Barbara Base, Joyce Wall, and Beverly Pankratz.

Renovation of the old Hill Grade School building this week revealed writing and pictures on blackboards that have been in hiding for over 53 years. The renovation is being done to put the solid stone structure back into use.
