C.J. Ross, clerk of the district court, for the past nine years, last week resigned from this position and Mrs. Rex (Geraldine) Seibel was appointed by Judge Walter E. Hembrow to fill the unexpired term.

Summit School, located between Peabody and Burns, is the last one-teacher elementary school operating in Marion County. There are 15 students in grades one through eight, with only the sixth grade missing.

L.Cpl. Merle D. Leppke returned home Tuesday of last week after three years duty with the Marines. He spent the past year in Okinawa, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Formosa. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Leppke of Marion.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Klassen and daughters entertained with a wiener roast and homemade ice cream Friday evening, Those present were Edith Hett, Thad Meierhoff, Eileen Pavey, Ruby Winkley, Harold Socolofsky and Keith Hett.

Flora McKibbin of Marion was notified this week that she has won a new Norge refrigerator in a sweepstakes contest sponsored by Staley Manufacturing Co. She will receive the refrigerator through W.J. Hassinger Plumbing and Heating Co., local Norge dealer.

Football coach Chuck Norris mapped out his secret strategy to members of the Marion Kiwanis Club Monday noon in the Owl Car Café. He says he plans to play his games “one at a time” with special emphasis on the Herington match.
