A special committee, with Roger Hannaford as head, has asked that all merchants cooperate with the Old Settlers’ reunion by decorating their store windows appropriately for the day.

Close harmony will be dispensed again at the evening program in the park on Old Settlers’ Day. The quartet composed of singing waiters Fred Allen, Reuben Zerger, Miles Henry, and Conrad Steinel was one of the audience-pleasing acts at the recent Community Guild Banquet. The program will start at 8 p.m. following an ice cream social.

Mr. and Mrs. Max Carr Sr. announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Jeanne Louise, of Denver, Colorado, to Robert B. Higgins of Denver. The couple has chosen October 18 as their wedding date.

Athena Study Club began its 50th anniversary celebration Tuesday morning with a coffee at the home of Mrs. Frank Hollar. In special observance of the occasion, most of the members wore their Centennial dresses to the 9:30 breakfast.

Glen Shields of Lincolnville won the Kansas State Fair 4-H tractor operator’s contest Tuesday at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. He will represent the state at a regional tractor operator’s contest to be held in Minnesota. Glen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Shields.
