Bown-Corby School’s big end-of-year production, the May Fete, will be May 7 at Marion Gymnasium. “American Story” is the title of this year’s production. The May Fete Queen this year is Carol Holt. Her consort is Jim Coe. They are heralded by trumpeters Terry Weigart and Rodney Cook. Crown bearer is Diane Anderson. John Popp is Uncle Sam and Karen Regier is Miss Liberty.

A party for Danny Gooding’s seventh birthday was given May 1 by his mother, Mrs. Virgil Gooding. Guests were Larry Baxter, Mike Classen, Gene Ewert, Lawrence Ford, Kevin Fruechting, Dennis Hamm, Dart Henry, Rick Just, Jimmy Koslowsky, Greg Regier, Terry Smith, Dennis Bedford, Mike Klose, and Ronnie Weber.

Margene Savage of Florence, Marion County’s beautiful and talented “Miss Kansas of 1965,” and her mother, Mrs. Charles Savage, were two of four persons killed in a tragic automobile crash east of Emporia Sunday morning.

The spirited competition for cheerleaders for Marion Elementary School was held Thursday. Next year’s 8th grade cheerleaders will be Janel Klose, Diana Franklin, Shirley Helmer, and Cathy Coe. Seventh grade cheerleaders will be Susie Wood, Shelly Batt, Sandra Anderson, and Debbie Case.
