Through a most unusual combination of area downpours, the lower parts of Peabody were flooded this week, while Marion was spared, as was Florence.

Two station attendants at Dave Hanson’s S & S Oil Company were presented $50 awards by Phillips Petroleum Company last week. Rex Berry and Roland Klein were spot checked by the Phillips “Mystery Motorist” and found to give complete and thorough driveway service. It was only after that, the Mystery Motorist identified himself and left the $50.

Seaman Earl W. Winter, USN, son of Ruben E. Winter, Marion, is visiting ports in Northern Europe aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Claude V. Ricketts. The ship’s crew is made up of officers and men from five allied nations, West Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United States.

A new musical group pleasing teen-agers in this area has played for several dances at the lake recreational hall. The quintet, calling themselves “The Scoundrels,” is composed of Wally Slusser, Pat Costello, Rod Oelschlager, Tom Berry, and Jim Magee.
