A tremendous lightning bolt, coming in the midst of a 1 a.m. rainstorm Sunday morning, hit the Hallett Construction Company, formerly Riddle Quarries, repair shop building and welding shack southwest of Marion. Almost immediately it turned into a hot, searing fire. It will probably be a $25,000 to $30,000 loss, according to Shirley Richards, plant superintendent.

Winners in the Marion County 4-H boys’ grooming and girls’ style revue are pictured on this week’s front page. Grand champions are William Thomas of Marion Go-Getters and Maureen Riffel of Lincolnville Wide Awakes. Reserve champions are Ruth Kliewer of South Cottonwood and Phillip Schubert of Ramona Red Chiefs.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ewert entertained with a dinner for their son, Gene, who was eight years old. Boys invited were Pat Carr, Mark Ottensmeier, Mark Rindt, David Colburn, Jimmy Koslowsky, and Terry Smith.

Marion Cub Scouts of Den 3 spent Wednesday morning at the Florence city springs and had a cookout at noon to pass their cookout test. Cubs attending were Pat Kelly, Ronald Ehrlich, Jack Hett, Bob Hett, Bruce Taylor and J.D. Bauman.

First place winners in the Midget Ball League are Randy Perkins, Jim Coe, John Higgins, Randy Conyers, Don Smith, Derald Bezdek, Billy Finke, Billy Newlin, Mike Bredemeier, Mike Jackson, Jack Loomis and Scott McGranor.
