Bruce Powell, son of Mr. and Mrs. B.C. Powell and a student at KSTC, Emporia, has been named by the Marion Community Athletic Association as summer director of the youth program sponsored here each year.

Spain Guest Home, 50-bed skilled nursing home now under construction at the east edge of Marion, is scheduled for completion around April 1. Mrs. Minnie Spain will own and operate the facility.

David Longhofer, Pat Costello, Norman Mueller, and Mike Wood served Tuesday and Wednesday as pages for Sen. William Ward and Rep. Lawrence Slocombe in the Legislature at Topeka. Those who served as their pages previously were Rebecca Herrick, Dennis Knoblock, Lester Harlan, David Magee, and Myron Frans.

Marion’s loveable, if not lovely, Mashers, semi-pro basketball team, continued to dominate the maple during the past week. They defeated the Marion Bullets Feb. 16, 86-48.

Geraldine Berg, Marion, received $200 at Marion’s Wednesday Cash Day drawing. She was the only winner present. Mrs. Bert Shubert missed $10. Dean Ollenburger missed $5, Richard Brodhead missed $25, and Mrs. Owen Meier, Durham, missed $5.

Day after day, we continue to hope for much needed moisture. The soil is so dry and hard it is more like concrete than soil.
