The entire town was damaged by high winds Friday morning whipping at rates of from 80 to 110 miles per hour and lasting from before 2 a.m. until almost 3. Marion’s beautiful Central Park suffered most, with several trees completely lost. Streets were blocked with fallen trees, many cars, roof tops, windows, and television antennas were damaged. The roof was blown off of the Pilsen Grade School and considerable damage was suffered by the Marion gymnasium and elementary school.

Approximately 40 Californians, formerly from Kansas, attended the fifth annual Kansas Family Picnic held July 7 at Micke Grove near Lodi, California,

The Pilsen “Cookie” team won the Tri-County Tournament at Burdick Saturday night by defeating previously undefeated Hillsboro 6-5. The Pilsen team consists of Tim Holub, Ronald Vinduska, Gary Holub, Valentine Klenda, Pat Holub, Marion Bina, Vince Klenda, Kenny Bezdek, and Kenny Steiner. Coaches are Laverne Bina and Sylvin Holub.

The “Look Who’s Here” column reports the following births at St. Luke Hospital this week: Michael Ernest, son of Mr. and Mrs. Laverne E. Bina, born July 27; Melissa Gail, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Krispense, born July 28; and Mark Francis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Makovec, born July 29.
