Ten members of James William Miesse Post 22 of the American Legion were honored Thursday evening for 50 years continuous membership in the organization. The members are John Ely, Ollie Wight, Alfred Kirchner, Alex H. Case, Earl Kreuter, C.J. Mehl, E.L. “Bud Cavannah, Jay E. Hargett, Marvin J. Peterson, and Cecil Brunner.

Marion Warriors took the CVL title in football this fall. They finished the season with a 6-1 league record, falling only to Herington.

Harlem Thrillers, professional clown basketball team will play the Marion Mashers in the school gymnasium Monday night. Members of the Mashers team are Jay Jost, Gerry Harris, Boyce Baumgardner, Don Druse, Jim Link, Dennis Bolen, and Warren Vogel.

Harold Schlotthauer, who grew up in Marion, is now general manager of the San Mateo Daily Times, San Mateo, California. His newspaper took an active part in the campaign of Shirley Temple Black in her unsuccessful bid for nomination to Congress.

Bill Pretzer of Elmdale, an airplane and engine mechanic at the Emporia airport is building his own airplane, an aerobatic biplane powered by a 135hp Lycoming engine, at his home. He expects the craft to be ready to fly in a couple of months. Pretzer and his handmade airplane were featured in the Saturday Emporia Gazette.
