Most Marion stores and offices will be closed all day Monday for the New Year holiday. The courthouse will close at noon on Friday so that offices may close their books during the afternoon. School will start Tuesday morning following the holiday break.

Marion County Commissioners have been successful in selling the Canada Bridge located north of Canada. It was sold to a Clyde McDaniel Salvage Co. of Leonardville. The bridge must be removed to make way for the Marion reservoir.

Arthur Bartel, 31, of Derby and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Bartel of Hillsboro, died Sunday afternoon as the result of an airplane crash south of Lehigh.

Pat Sauble, Cedar Point rancher and poultryman, will be one of the speakers at the 1968 Kansas Agricultural Convention to be held Jan. 10 to 12 in Topeka.

Mack Welling Lumber Co. put several loads of sand on their sidewalk Saturday and set up a sign offering the sand free to those who would use it for luminaries. Ralph Popp, manager, had a two-fold purpose. He wanted to encourage luminaries, and he didn’t want to be pestered all day Sunday by folks wanting a bucket of sand.
