A drive for investors to purchase bonds for renovation of the old Elgin Hotel into a 23-unit apartment complex has fallen short. Anyone interested in preservation of the landmark or making an income tax free investment should contact a committee member by Wednesday.
Marion city clerk Lucille Britain was one of 130 municipal officials attending the 26th annual clerks and finance officers school Feb. 18 through 20 at the University of Kansas.

Four charter members of Friendly Extension Homemakers Unit and one member for 40 years attended the unit’s 50-year celebration Sunday afternoon in Lincolnville. The honored guests were May Kaiser, Emma Lietz, Mrs. Gus Nelson, Mrs. Randal Pritz, and Mrs. Martin Shields.
Members of the John D. Hett family were hosts for a luau March 1 in celebration of the 89th birthday of the family patriarch, John Hett.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Robertson and Tami were hosts for a buffet Sunday evening honoring the Marion High School basketball team. Players attending were David Blanding, Doug Druse, Brad Heerey, Gary Hett, Pat Kelly, Van Kerns, Bret O’Dell, Rod Richmond, Randy Robertson, Jim Steele, and Tim Zerger. Also present were coaches Marion Ogden and Leonard White and their spouses.
