January 31 is the date of the annual Cottonwood Valley Poultry Barbecue and Jamboree in Marion.

Marion County next week again joins over 90 other counties in the state in a massive campaign to “stop polio.” A series of clinics have been set up over the county where Type II of the Sabin Oral Vaccine will be administered to all who participate — young and old.

The city this week sealed all cracks and did repair work on the tennis courts in the park. The courts will be flooded and when the weather gets cold they will be ideal skating rinks for the youth of the community.

Marion High School’s “Basketball Queen” will be crowned this Friday night at the traditional homecoming ceremonies. The three finalists for queen are Cheryl Caselman, senior, and Donna Hanschu and Mary Konarik, juniors. The girls will be escorted by Mike Schwemmer, Lowell Ensey, and Max Jackson.

Roger Morse, served as installing officer Monday at the Owl Car Café when Kiwanis officers for 1963 were installed. Bob Musgrave will be president; Les Griffith and Rev. Elton Kirstein, vice presidents; Roger Hannaford, secretary; and Alex Case Jr., treasurer.

Cleo Herman announces free bowling lessons at MarBowl Lanes will begin Jan. 11. Lessons will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday for the remainder of January.
