Hillsboro Chief of Police Lee Westhafer and Marion officer Charles Frans were critically injured early Friday morning in a one-car accident southwest of Hillsboro. The car in which they were riding was demolished.

The new Mennonite Brethren Church on South Coble, Marion, will be used for services for the first time this Sunday, April 7. Pastor Laverne Loewens, reports formal dedication of the building will be held April 28.

Cub Scouts of Den 5, their Den mother Mrs. Wm. D. Finke and her assistant Mrs. Robert McElwain, visited the Record office Thursday to see how the paper is published. Cubs were Chuck McElain, Randy Perkins, Bradley Kimball, James Druse, Roger Hannaford, Billy Fink, and Steve Fillipp.

The basketball team of Thompson Transport of McPherson won first place in the Marion City Basketball tournament held here last week. The Marion County Record team won second place in the event. A total net profit of close to $200 will go to help purchase new glass backboards for Marion gymnasium.

There were no winners in this week’s Cash Day drawing. Hannah Gilbert, Marion, missed $100; Howard Pierce, Wichita, missed $5; Chester Unruh, Hillsboro, $5; Judy Vandever, Marion, $35; and Menno Wiebe, Hillsboro, $10.

Barbara Musgrave of Marion has held the county Spelling Bee championship for the past four years. She is a high school freshman this year and is not eligible to compete. Who will be this year’s champion?
