The handsome new water tower is filled and in operation. Fire protection in large areas of the city will be greatly improved. The new tower holds 500,000 gallons, the old tower, 90,000.

County treasurer Lenora Klose announced this week that Arnold Schwemmer has been appointed deputy treasurer effective May 1.

One more school, the Loveless district, has called a meeting to decide on how property in the district is to be divided among adjacent districts. The division will be made according to the wishes of the individual patrons of the district, which has been disorganized.

Marion High School’s 4-man golf team took second place in the recent regional golf meet at Wichita. Coach Pete Keenan says they came in four strokes behind the winner, Emporia. Team members are George Jackson, Chris Hauser, Lowell Ensey, and Carl Elling.

There was only one winner in this week’s Cash Day drawing. Vera McCarty of Marion received $5. Clarence Kline, Marion, missed $150; Ernest Bowers, Peabody, missed $5; Mrs. Gerald W. Hill, Marion, missed $10; and Alex Laudner, Marion, missed $20.

The marriage of Miss Harriet Jean Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry R. Miller of Lincolnville, to Laverne E. Bina, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bina of Marion, was solemnized at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen.
