Hundreds of area youngsters are learning to swim this summer under the guidance of a fine group of instructors at the Marion Municipal Pool. Instructors are John Hoover, Mary Konarik, Nancy Klenda, Jean Morse, and Patty Longhofer. Assistant instructors or “helpers” are Blair Post, Larry Ensey, JoAnn Magee, Barbara Musgrave, LaVonda Hett, and Tom Tucker. Donna Jost is the program director.

Double ring vows were exchanged June 30 by Miss Sharon Kay Youk and Gerald Dean Kelsey. The Reverend B.A. Hobratschk heard the vows at Zion Lutheran Church, Hillsboro.

Milford Hett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Hett, recently received his private pilot’s license at Kansas State University in the advance program of the Air Force reserve officers training corps. Upon graduation, Hett will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

A dance for teen-agers is scheduled for Saturday night at the Marion County Lake hall. The music will be by a live orchestra, The Avontes.

On display this week at the Record is one of the largest stalks of rhubarb seen in some time, if ever. Grown by Jim Cogdill, it measures 41 inches long and weighs about a pound.

Leslie Powell, Bob Musgrave, Dean Batt, Rendel Newsom, Ken Rigler, and Lynn Christensen attended the Kiwanis picnic at Lake Council Grove Monday evening.
