Henry Metzler is busy this week remodeling his café building at the corner of Main and Freeborn. It has been rented to Robert Hamm. Hamm will open the café within the next few days and will continue to operate the former Timbo Drive-In at the west edge of town.
The thrill that comes but once in only a few golfer’s lifetime came Tuesday evening to young Mike Wood when his 8-iron shot on No. 8 at Marion Country Club hit on the edge of the green and rolled straight into the hole for an ace. No one remembers an ace being scored on No. 8 before.
Two members of Marion’s Babe Ruth ball team are star performers on the All-Star Cottonwood Falls team. They are pitcher George Jackson and catcher Richard Winter.
Mrs. Art Hamm, Marion, received $50 in this week’s Cash Day drawing and Martha Schaefer, Marion, received $10. Lorene Schlesener and Shirley Thompson of Marion, and Joan Schinnerer, Florence, were not present when their names were drawn.
Melody Thompson was hostess to a “come as you are” breakfast Wednesday morning honoring her 16th birthday. Those present to enjoy breakfast on the veranda were Joyce Frans, Barbara Christensen, Carol Caselman, Linda Bauman, and Neva Kelsey.
