Bids were opened Monday night and a contract was awarded to Braymen-Meinking of Topeka to construct the new sewage treatment facilities for Marion. The new system will be composed of lagoons located just south of town. Construction is scheduled to start by Nov. 15.

The County Superintendent’s office announces the auction sale date of Saturday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. for Morning Star School, located 3 miles west and 1 mile south of Marion, and at 1 p.m. Oct. 19 for Canada School, located 5 miles west and 1 mile north of Marion. Sales of the Loveless and Bartholdi schools will be held Oct. 26.

Virginia Kay Amick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Amick, Marion, enlisted last week in the WAF, women’s branch of the Air Force, through the recruiting office in Salina. Virginia Kay graduated from Marion High School in May of this year.

Charley Heerey will leave Thursday by train for Chicago where he will visit a nephew before going on to New York on Sunday for a flight to his homeland of Ireland. He plans to spend two weeks visiting relatives, including two brothers, the eldest being 96 years of age.

Several improvements have been made in Marion this week. A new flashing arrow sign has been installed in front of the Cozy Café on Main Street, new concrete driveway and aprons constructed at Williams Home Oil on the hill, and an addition of a new building with corrugated fiberglass covering is being made to the Conyers’ Flowers facilities.
