Land buyers and other engineers for the Corps of Engineers were in Marion County this week making initial contacts looking toward purchase of land for the start of construction of the Marion Reservoir.

For the past year and more, a group of Marion women have been quietly going about the monumental task of completely renovating, renewing, and modernizing the books, shelves, and the entire atmosphere of the Marion Public Library — an outstanding example of valuable public service. These women are Marie Morse, Audrey Carpenter, Dorothy Magee, Phyllis Melton, Mary Longhofer, Billie Slusser, Dora Phillips, and Ruth Caselman.

The following girls helped Linda Bernhardt celebrate her birthday Tuesday: Luann Redfearn, Marsha and Carol Steinel, and Cindy and Janet Druse.

Coach Pete Keenan’s walloping Warriors won their way to the championship of the Inman invitational basketball tournament over the past weekend. In the championship contest, Marion won over Halstead 57-53. Max Jackson again led the scoring with 24 points, followed by Bass 12, Hamlin 10, George Jackson 6, Frans 4, and Hauser 1.
