Unless all the county’s wheat handlers are mistaken, this year’s harvest is going to be the largest and best in the history of Marion County — at least from the standpoint of quality wheat and total bushels received. Rains that have plagued the harvest crews seem to have done little final damage.

Ray Vinduska, present assistant postmaster at Marion, is slated to take over the post of retiring postmaster Paul Shahan on July 10.

Over 125 Marion County Girl Scouts and some 30 or more leaders are attending their annual “Day Camp” this week on property owned by Norman Plenert in the southeast part of Marion.

Don Westerhaus, one of Marion’s three representatives to Boys’ State at Lawrence this summer, was speaker at the Monday noon luncheon of the Kiwanis club. The other two Marion boys, Gilbert Johnson and Gene Schimpf, were unable to be at the meeting.

Kristine Kelsey, 4-day-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Kelsey of Marion, is Miss Father’s Day for 1964. The young lady won a beef roast for her dad from the Kansas Cow Belles by arriving at 12:20 a.m. June 21— Father’s Day.
