May 29 is “Spring Show” and “Sidewalk Sale” day in Marion. The events include a livestock and judging contest, tractor and farm machinery display, beef barbecue, and horse shodeo.

Dennis Hett is valedictorian of the Marion High School class of 1965. Salutatorian is Linda Bauman. At the annual awards assembly Wednesday morning, the Beard Memorial courtesy awards, presented by Mrs. Edson Childs for the Community Guild, went to Robert Raleigh, most courteous boy, and Melody Thompson most courteous girl.

Marion Municipal Swimming Pool will officially open Sunday for the summer season. Mrs. Cecil Post and son Cecil, Jr. are pool managers. Life guards will be Jeannie Morse, Judy Pankratz, LaVonda Hett, Barbara Christensen, and Blair Post.

The fifth anniversary celebration of the Hillsboro adobe house and museum will be May 30 according to Mrs. A.C. Eitzen, committee chairman. Located along US-56 in the south part of town, the tourist attraction has proven to be a popular place.

An interesting sidelight on this year’s commencement exercises was the fact that Miss Ethel Gillig, who now lives in Wichita and who taught this class in kindergarten, returned to Marion to be present for graduation.
