A record crowd is expected Thursday evening for the annual Chamber of Commerce sponsored Farm-City Banquet and program at Marion City Building. General chairmen of the affair are Dr. Earl Wood and Roger “Bud” Hannaford.

Announcement is made this week that brothers Bill and Larry Burkholder will lease Bud’s Conoco Service from W.M. “Bud” Pierce effective Nov. 1. The station has been owned and operated by Pierce for nearly 20 years and has expanded into one of the largest Conoco and B.F. Goodrich outlets in Central Kansas.

The Dairy Queen will close for the season after Sunday, according to Mr. and Mrs. Will Helmer, owners. They state it will open again next spring, as usual.

“A” team Warrior cheerleaders chosen this week are Susan Yeagley, Toni McElwain, Pat Warneke, Roxy Zerger, and Judy Pankratz. “B” team leaders are Susan Lentz, Michelle Hett, Kathy Perkins, and Helen Jackson.

Mildred Christensen and Violet Richmond were honored Oct. 21 at the annual St. Luke Hospital “Awards Dinner.” Mrs. Christensen received a 10-year award and Mrs. Richmond a 5-year award.

A small storage building at the back of Lillie Schlotthauer’s home on North Freeborn St. burned down Tuesday noon. The building had been used as a play house for children of the neighborhood and some of them admit playing inside the house with matches and accidentally starting the fire.
