Scores of local persons were momentarily frightened about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday by a series of earth tremors that shook desks and buildings, swayed curtains and pictures, and lasted for probably 30 seconds. The main quake is reported to have centered in southeastern Kansas and northeastern Oklahoma.

The Marion winner of the second “Operations Goodwill” all-expense trip to Canada and Washington, D.C., sponsored by the VFW, is announced this week as Diana Herbert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Herbert.

Joe Vann, at present coach at the Glen Elder High School, has been hired by the board of education to be head football and baseball coach, and assistant basketball coach next year at Marion High School.

The new call light for the city marshals was installed at the corner of Third and Main this week. The light is blue in four directions and high so not to interfere with traffic.

Finch School students and their teachers visited the courthouse, the Record-Review, and other interesting places in Marion last Friday morning. The pupils were Maurice Just, Delton Richmond, William Winkley, Deloise Funk, Mary Lynn Hein, and Eugene Just. Ruby Winkley was a guest.

Easter eggs were dyed by the girls of Brownie Troop 1 at their regular meeting Tuesday evening. Later the eggs were hidden by their leader and a hunt for them was enjoyed by the girls.

Mr. and Mrs. H.L. McDaris had Mr. and Mrs. Harold Woerz, Mr. and Mrs. Rosse Case, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ottensmeier, and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mueller as their guests last Friday evening at an informal dinner party.
