The Marion County wheat harvest will be in full swing in this county by this weekend. Elevators over the county anticipate a huge crop.

Rev. Clarence Born of Crystal, N.D., has accepted a call from Our Savior Lutheran Church and is expected to arrive August 17. He also will supply the Immanuel Lutheran country church east of Marion on Highway 150.

Dr. A.L. Havlik, local veterinarian, announces this week that Edward F. Ptacek, also a licensed veterinarian, has joined him in the Marion Veterinary Clinic.

The Marion Cookie Leaguers have won their first two starts. Jerry Richards pitched both games, with Jim Williams and Roland Vogel as catchers. Leading Marion hitters were J. Minear, J. Bledsoe, J. Shull, and D. Winters.

Mrs. Victor Winter entertained a group of youngsters Saturday afternoon with a birthday party in honor of their son Randy’s third birthday. Invited guests were Karen and Sue Quam, Sidney and Rosemary Ollenberger, Juanita and Jolene Beisel, Cheryl Wooldridge, Linda and Kay Amick, and Cheryl Tidwell.

Eugene Steiner of Durham writes his mother to tell her he had quite a thrill when he and three of his fellow Army cooks met Clark Gable, who is making the picture, “King Arthur’s Kitchen,” in Shaftesburg, England. He says the show is in color and that he and his GI friends can be seen in the movie dressed in wine, brown, and light and dark green jackets.
