A freak, local storm, that gathered and built up 10 miles east of Marion Friday afternoon, did widespread damage to farm buildings and crops. Hail accompanying the wind stripped vegetation and beat field crops in its path completely into the ground. No personal injuries have been reported.

Work is continuing rapidly this week on the Main Street resurfacing job in Marion. Starting at the Cottonwood river bridge west of town, the surfacing crews have the base coating finished over the entire route to the Freeborn street intersection, and the surface coat completed to the Main Street bridge.

Among the new residents in the Riddle addition on South Cedar are Mr. and Mrs. Lysle Russell and family and Mr. and Mrs. David Wooldridge.

Tim Burkholder, who has been serving with the Army in Alaska, arrived in Marion Friday evening and will visit friends here before going on to New York to spend the remainder of his leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Burkholder.

Residents, who live near the former channel of Cottonwood River through the south part of town, are complaining of the odor coming from the stagnant pools in the former stream bed, where many fish are said to be dying. Most of the fish are carp. At times, they say, the odor is very offensive.
