The Distinguished Service Cross and Bronze Star were awarded to the Most Reverend Mark K. Carroll, Bishop of Wichita in a ceremony Saturday at St. John’s church, Pilsen. The awards were in honor of Father Emil J. Kapaun, who has been missing in the Korean theatre since November 1950.
After 45 years of operation, the Marion Hospital was officially closed Monday. Patients were moved to the new St. Luke Hospital and equipment which could be used there was taken out Monday afternoon.
The high school honor roll for the first six weeks of school issued this week shows five students with perfect all-A records. Diana Herbert and Myron Jantz, seniors, Nancy Broadstreet and Marilyn Reh, juniors, and John Williams, sophomore, were the high average students.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ford announce the engagement of their daughter, Juanita, to Carl Stovall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Stovall.
The Winter triplets spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Winter and family while their parents were moving to Peabody where the Winters now have a locker plant.
Marion County sheriff’s office acquired wider radio contact with law enforcement officials this week with the receipt of a two-way shortwave set from the Kansas Highway Patrol Department, tuned only to their units.
