One of the most severe snowstorms in many years hit Marion County with unexpected fury Tuesday afternoon and evening. A wind-driven 13-inch snowfall blocked all roads over the county. Many are stranded here in the swirling blizzard. Among the ones stranded is a group of 22 members of the Ballet Russe de Carlo of New York, who were on their way to an appearance at Great Bend.

The annual turkey day football classic in this area, the Marion-Peabody struggle, was called off by officials of the two schools because of the condition of the field and roads.

Mr. and Mrs. O.J. Shields are holding open house Nov. 30 to commemorate the 70 years of their Grand View Stock Farm, southwest of Lost Springs.

The first issue of a new publication, “The Smoke Signal,” came out this week at Marion High School. The staff of the new publication includes Roger Pankratz, editor; Herb Bartel, Duane Fruechting, Ronnie Hiebert, and Jay Fisher, assistant editors; Mike Brodhead, features; Shirley Tiemeier and Thelma Jean Seibel, typists; C. R. Wall, sponsor.

The Army unit of which Pfc. Marvin D. Wunsch is a member has just won its second Meritorious Unit Citation in the Korean fighting. Wunsch is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Wunsch of Marion.

Mable Winne, who has been spending the summer and fall in Mexico City, returned home Monday.
