O.W. (Gus) Newlon, local Duckwall’s store manager, received word this week that on Feb. 1 of next year he will be transferred to Ellsworth to take over management of the company’s store there.

Grandpa Brooker, who has for many years been a familiar figure in Marion, will celebrate his 99th birthday Dec. 23. Graham Fletcher will recognize Grandpa Brooker on one of his broadcasts of the news on Dec. 23.

Mrs. Abe Mohn entertained with a buffet supper Saturday evening to honor her son, Homer’s, birthday anniversary. Those present included Carolyn Merrill, Ann Davies, Judy Thatch, Zona Kelsey, Nila Hoopes, Johnnie Williams, Ronnie Hiebert, Mike Brodhead, Robert Ehrlich, and Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Ehrlich.

In an article about the many festively decorated homes and businesses is this one paragraph: “The Presbyterian church has spotlighted the entrance, lighted the trees and added a Christmas scene. Down the hill, the string of lights on the post office and the Case building add much to the general downtown lighting. The beautiful window tree of Schroeder’s Produce, the light- outlined Evangelical United Brethren Church with a painted picture in the announcement frame, the large lighted red candles at the Methodist church and the lighted City Building topped by the waving Santa Claus, are all attractive and well done.
