A big mobile crane from Riddle Quarries was real help last week in the job of taking down the tall old chimneys on the YMCA building. Weathering and storms of many years had weakened the chimneys until they presented a real danger and had to be removed. The question in the minds of those removing the stones was how the stones were raised there when the building was built.

Showing at the Kaw Theatre this week are the following: “The Man Behind the Gun” starring Randolph Scott and Patrice Wymore; “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” with Gregory Peck, Susan Hayward, and Ava Gardner; Leo Gorcey and the Bowery Boys in “Here Come The Marine;” and Red Skelton as “The Clown.”

According to latest reports by American soldiers returning to the U.N. forces and freedom, after having been captive prisoners of the Reds, (Capt.) Emil Kapaun was taken to the prison hospital in January or February of 1951, and none of the returned prisoners has heard or seen him since.

With almost one-fourth of the enrollment at Bown-Corby School out this week because of an outbreak of measles, the annual May Fete date has been changed to May 21.

Laurence Priddle, Gregory Henry, and Jerry Richards will attend the Boy Scouts National Jamboree in California this summer.
