Construction is being completed this week on at least two, possibly three, new picnic units in the Marion park. Bob Dixon is doing the work. They are being made mainly of concrete and the stone taken from the old amphitheatre that was covered several years ago.

The Country Club swimming pool is becoming an ever-more popular place as the days become hotter, and will be the scene of much water sort activities throughout the summer. Country Club dues for the coming year became payable June 1st, at the usual $10 per year membership.

Wren school district, northwest of Marion, has petitioned for annexation to School District No. 1 and the petition has been accepted by the local board.

Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Winter announce the engagement of their daughter, Virginia Louise, to Charles Heerey Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heerey Sr. The wedding date has not been set.

Bud Hannaford has been home on a five-day leave from Camp Carson, Colo., where he has been stationed following his overseas duty.

Ricky Henry invited a number of friends to meet at the park Thursday afternoon to help him celebrate his sixth birthday. Those present included Melody Thompson, Jeral Whitlock, Bobby Good, Jim Weidenbener, Murray Blackwelder, Donnie Westerhaus, Richard Winter, Donnie Roberts, Lowell and Larry Ensey, and Wally Slusser.
