Dr. E.K. Schroeder, dentist, was elected president of the Marion Board of Education Monday night at the first regular meeting of the newly organized board. He takes over the office held for the past term by Samuel Thole.

Dwight “Bull” Fruechting has signed with freshman football forces at the University of Wichita. Fruechting is a fullback who made all conference honors on the Marion Warrior team and earned letters in football, basketball, and baseball. Marion fans wish him well at Wichita.

Harold Keazer was winner Sunday afternoon of the first flight in the golf tournament at Marion Country Club. Second place went to Bob Hoover, third to Dave Montgomery, and fourth to Bob Brooks.

The Kansas Picnic Club held its annual picnic July 19 at Roeding Park in Fresno, Calif. J.C.Yakel, former resident in the Strassburg area northwest of Marion, now living in Maderia, Calif., reports there were attendees there from nearly every county in Kansas.

Mrs. Alva Thompson entertained with a wiener roast Friday evening in honor of the sixth birthday of her daughter, Melody. Guests were Neva Kelsey, Carol Priebe, Carol McKibbin, Jeryl Whitlock, Barbara Helmer, Jim Weidenbener, Donnie Roberts, Rickey Henry, Eddie Atherton, Murray Blackwelder, and Dicky Maggar
