Teachers have been hired for the 1953-54 year in all of Marion County’s 42 one-teacher schools, County Superintendent C.C. Rice reported this week.

The changeover to the dial telephone system in Florence will take place Sept. 1.

Members of the 1947 graduating class of Marion High School and their families held a reunion Saturday evening at the lake. Thirty of the 37 class members were in attendance.

The Tampa City softball team has won three tournaments in a row and has tied for first place in the Marion-Dickinson county softball league. All of the players on the team are Tampa High School graduates, who have been playing together for a number of years and have a very impressive record in championships. Art Mueller, the Tampa pitcher, has pitched every game this season. A lot of credit also must be given to Leo Costello, team manager.

Members of a Saddle Club organized in Marion a number of years ago got together Friday evening to honor Capt. John R. Wheeler who organized the group and has been their leader.

Clara McKay received word this week that her son Jack McKay and family soon will be moving to Juneau, Alaska, where he has a position as director of the legislative council of the territory.
