SEPTEMBER 10, 1953

A total of 536 pupils enrolled Tuesday in the first day of school at Marion for the 1953-54 term. There are 167 at Bown-Corby, 178 at the Hill Grade School, and 191 in high school.

Jerry Siebert, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Siebert, is pictured shinnying up a 12-foot stalk of feed corn on the Siebert farm north of Aulne. The size and height is not at all unusual over the 28-acre field of Mexican June corn being cut for ensilage.

New staff members this year at Marion city schools are R. Wm. Wygle, H.S. Principal, Ross O. Estes, social sciences, Gae Whitney, home economics, Leonard W. Sterling, Grade 7, Mary Lee Floyd, Grade 6, Mrs. Edward Colburn, Grade 6, Esther Holloway, Grade 4, and Almeda Wineinger, Grade 2.

Mrs. Kenneth Swanson, her mother Mrs. Frank Hollar and Mrs. Rosse B. Case were hostesses Wednesday evening at the Hollar home for a shower honoring Mrs. James Sartorius, who was married in Amsterdam, Holland, and is spending some time here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Williams.

Weddings announced in this issue were those of Kathryn Anne Popp and John D. Hett on Sept. 4 and Violet Krispense and Dalmer Kaufman on Sept. 6.

Mrs. Fred Muck and daughter, Ruth, entertained several of Ruth’s friends in the sixth grade and their mothers at a musical tea Thursday afternoon.
