D.B. Jantz won first place this year in the annual Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Christmas lighting contest. His painted manger scene entitled “Peace on Earth,” won the $25 prize. Second prize went to Albert Bernhardt, $20, third to Ira Newcomer, $15, and fourth to Ed Good, $10.

Betty Mathews entertained a group of friends Saturday evening for a Christmas party and gift exchange. Guests included Elda Pankratz, Johnsie Just, DeLoris Schafers and Joyce Pientka.

The sisters’ home on St. Luke Hospital grounds was the setting for a Christmas dinner and entertainment given Sunday by the Sisters for the hospital medical staff, their wives, and employees of the hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Dale Cavender entertained employees of the Duckwall store Wednesday evening at a dinner at Coons’ Café followed by a social evening at the Cavender home. Those present included Violet Bartel, Vera Wooldridge, Florence Hayen, Ruth Dohner, Ruth Dunn, Nancy Broadstreet, Wanda Propp, Clarice Collett, and LaDonna Funk.

Mr. and Mrs. Dave Greenemeyer of the Marion Bakery announced today that their place of business will be closed from Christmas until about February 1. This will be a vacation for the Greenemeyers who plan taking a well-deserved rest.
