The long awaited arrival of the large hand-carved crucifix, fashioned in a Korean prison camp by a Jewish soldier in special honor and memory of Father Emil Kapaun, has been announced as June 6. Capt. Ralph Nardella of Patterson, N.J. is flying to Kansas with the crucifix.

The local Centennial Queen, chosen Monday night to represent the city in the Old Santa Fe Trail Centennial, is Sarabel Wolf. She, Ann Davies, and Mary Margaret Hannaford were chosen as finalists out of 26 contestants. Sarabel will now compete with representatives of other cities. The queen selected there will ride across the state with the caravan.

Mrs. A.W. Haizlip took 22 pupils in the first grade at Bown-Corby School to Wichita Thursday where the children visited the Bond Bakery, Steffens Ice Cream Plant, the Riverside Zoo and Park and the KFBI radio station. Several mothers went along and enjoyed the trip with the children.

Genny Krch, Marion High graduate of last spring, has been elected Emporia State College’s candidate for “College Queen of America.” The contest draws entrants from colleges and universities throughout the United States. Genny is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Krch of north of Pilsen.
