Rain, wind, dust, and some hail ripped; through part of Marion County late last Thursday afternoon causing considerable small damage in scattered sections. A few small buildings and barns were demolished and quite a number damaged.

Mrs. Joe Childs entertained Friday afternoon with a party honoring the birthdays of her two children, Janice and Steven. Those present for the party were Elaine and Monty Rogers, Connie and Maurice Allen, Donnie and Billy Young, Marsha Childs, Steve Janzen, Mrs. Wm. Wygle, Deborah and Janice, Mrs. Kenneth Van Cleave, Larry and Sheryl, Mrs. Donald King, Allan, Ronnie, Wayne and Gary, Mrs. Alden Slusser, Pamela and Wally, Mrs. C.W. Mersereau, and Jerry Jost of Potwin.

Mickey Summervill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Summervill, won the “Week in St. Louis” trip sponsored by Wingerd’s IGA store, which ended this week. He will enjoy a weeklong, all expense paid, conducted trip to St. Louis as a guest of the IGA Company.

New members welcomed into Sub-Deb Club Aug. 5 were Carlita Bass, Faye Bezdek, Nova Bredemeier, Judy Coons, Pat DeWitt, Pat Hart, Nancy Keazer, Kay Navrat, Carmen Siebert, Joyce Seibel, Elsie Smith, Lenore Wheeler, Roma Collett, Arlene Klein, Susan Olin, Deloris Reed, and Jeanette Russell.
