Harry K. Rogers, former Marion resident, now of Chicago, and for years known and loved by school children for his portrayal of The Fire Clown, a fire prevention program under the auspices of the Fire Underwriters Assn., will be principal speaker at the afternoon program on Old Settlers’ Day.

Three Marion girls, Ethel Hiebert, daughter of Mrs. Arthur Bell, Isla May Richards daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Hiebert, and Laura Jane Bredemeier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Bredemeier, graduated Aug. 14 from Wesley Hospital School of Nursing.

Babies born in Marion Hospital this week include Diana Kay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Evans, Aug. 27; Debra Delores, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lee of Wichita, Aug. 29; and Denice Joanne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Skibbe, Aug. 31

Mr. and Mrs. W.E. McVickers, Elmdale, announce the engagement of their daughter, Betty Irene, to Donald A. Sklenar, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sklenar, Pilsen. The wedding date has been set for Dec. 28.

Steven Janzen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Janzen, celebrated his third birthday with four guests at a party Saturday afternoon. Those present included Steve’s sister Marilyn Kaye, Larry Van Cleave, Gary Wiens, and Gene Hett.
