The most devastating fire in Marion’s recent history Wednesday evening completely gutted one of the city’s largest downtown business buildings, the YMCA Building, owned by C.B. Wheeler, and located at the west end of the Main Street bridge.

Vera Remmers, daughter of Mrs. Rosa Remmers, became the bride of John Wooldridge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wooldridge, Nov. 21 in a ceremony at the home of the bride’s mother.

This year $100 in prize money will be offered to the most attractive decorated homes of the Christmas season in Marion, according to the Chamber of Commerce. Lynn Christensen, J.E. Tibbetts and Walter Fruechting are heading the committee to promote the decorations.

Lester Weatherwax, farm and market editor of radio station KFBI, will be on hand Dec. 13 to lead group singing at the annual 4-H Achievement Banquet. Shirley Suderman, a Washington trip winner and holder of many state and national honors and awards in club work, will tell of her experiences in the nation’s capital last summer.

The Sunday school class of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, taught by Mrs. Elmer Scott, enjoyed a skating party at the rink Tuesday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Holt announce the birth of a daughter, Jean Gerianne, Nov 20 at the Herington Hospital.
