Central Park will be the center of statewide attention Sunday afternoon as all the leading Republican state and national candidates will attend a big pre-election rally and barbecue. The list will be headed by Gov. John Anderson Jr., Senators Frank Carlson and James B. Pearson, and Congressman Garner Shriver.

Helen Olsen and Max Jackson were named as teenage and adult safe drivers for October by the United Traffic Safety Commission of Marion. Each will receive five gallons of gasoline.

One of two fugitives involved in the attempted robbery of Wingerd’s IGA turned himself over to officers early Friday morning. His companion still has not been found.

Six seniors from Marion High School attended the Emporia Kansas State Teachers College annual senior night Sept. 20. They had a guided tour of the campus, were entertained by the Emporia State Variety Review, attended a picnic supper, were guests at a football game, and invited to a dance. The six students were Keith Just, John Hoover, Jeannine Skibbe, Ruth Lais, Karen Higgins, and Helen Olsen.

Members of the St. Luke Hospital Baby Alumni Association will meet Saturday afternoon. Anyone born at St. Luke is invited to attend. The program will be provided by members of this year’s kindergarten class, which is composed of children who were born at St. Luke.
