Miss Kansas, 20-year-old Florence beauty Margene Savage, and her mother, Mrs. Charles Savage, were two of four persons killed Sunday morning in a tragic car collision east of Emporia. They were on their way home from an appearance in Chanute as part of Margene’s duties as Miss Kansas.
Queen of Bown-Corby School’s big end-of-the-year May Fete is Carol Holt. Her consort is Jim Coe. Nearly 150 children of the first three grades will take part.
“We will cover everything from Columbus to the space age,” principal Maude Thompson said.
A new multi-purpose building recently completed at the athletic grounds east of the city by the Cottonwood Valley Saddle Horse Association will be dedicated and put into use at a basket dinner May 14.
In spirited competition on Thursday, Marion Elementary students chose cheerleaders for next season. Eighth graders selected are Cathy Coe, Diana Franklin, Shirley Helmer, and Janel Klose. Next year’s seventh grade cheerleaders will be Sandra Anderson, Shelley Batt, Debbi Case, and Susie Wood.
Gerry Harris announces that the grand opening of Marion Motor Center, local Ford-Mercury-Lincoln dealership, will be May 14 and 15.
