A newspaper in Vinh Thuy, South Vietnam, reports that Staff Sergeant Don A. Maltbie, son of the Lawrence Maltbie of Marion and a gunner on an AC-47 Dragonship, has been recommended, along with the entire crew of the ship, for the Distinguished Flying Cross for action against Viet Cong forces.

The student body of Marion High School selected cheerleaders this week. “A” team cheerleaders are Shelly Hett, Susan Lentz, Kathy Perkins, Susan Yeagley, and Roxanne Zerger. “B” team cheers will be led by Kay Applegate, Tammy Case, Beverly Elling, and Nancy Olsen.

This month’s display at Marion City Library of works by young artist’s young artists will feature still-life watercolors by Mrs. Miles Henry; oil and lithograph work by Dennis Navrat; wood cuts and oil drawings by Dick Morse; and wood sculpture, ceramics, and a painting by Tuck Tucker.

Bill Burkholder and Dorothy Rindt are pictured with the Motorola 21-inch console color television set she won last week at a drawing at B&L Conoco Service.

Dennis Robertson won Marion Country Club’s championship golf tournament over the Labor Day weekend. He shot 72-65 for a total of 137. Second flight went to Boyce Baumgardner; third, to Keith Conyers; and fourth, to Al Bernhardt. Best drives were recorded by Art Lewerenz and Rosse Case. The longest putts were by Ray Vinduska and Jack Webb, and best tee shots by Dennis Robertson and Ed Good.
