The weatherman cooperated with a perfect setting for the two days of exhibits and entertainments at the big Spring Merchandise and Tractor Show. Exhibits drew many interested spectators and the auditorium was jammed for both of the style shows and for the entertainment by the Ark Valley Boys.

The two Peabody men injured in the shooting at Peabody have died. R.C. Pace, 57, charged with the death of Marvin L. Evans, 31, of Peabody, died Saturday at Axtell Christian Hospital in Newton. Evans died in the same hospital on Thursday. Immediate cause for the shooting was a $1 check that Pace gave to a waitress in the tavern, for which Evans demanded the cash.

“The Monkey’s Paw” is the title of the one-act play to be performed by Marion High School students Friday afternoon at the league contest at Council Grove. Characters will be played by Donald Dody, Mary Louise Heath, Kenneth Sly, Harold Wayne Kline, and Charles Muse, Miss Louse Strobel is director of the play.

Ella Meier, a junior at Bethany College and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Meier Jr. of Marion, is a member of the chorus of the Bethany College Oratorio Society that will perform Handel’s “Messiah” at the college on Palm Sunday.

Paul Minear accompanied by Braden Johnston, Leo Brose, Ed Hauser, and Gene Heath drove to Kansas City Monday evening for the Kansas State-Oklahoma A&M basketball game.
