Marion’s new service, garbage and rubbish collection, is doing right well, says collector Elmer Matson.

Ground was broken this week for a modern design, red fireproof tile 100’x110’ building on east Grand Street to house the McDaris Motors and Machinery Co., Inc., local distributors for Oldsmobile and Massey-Harris. It is hoped the building will be ready for occupancy by the middle of August.

Another change of ownership among businesses along Main Street was completed last week with the purchase by Leslie M. Ollenberger of the Marion Electric Shop, operated for the past 37 years by Earl Magathan.

The theme “Carousel” was carried out in the elaborate arrangements for the annual junior-senior banquet Tuesday evening in the high school gymnasium. The Al Jennings orchestra of McPherson furnished dance music following the banquet.

Weddings reported in this week’s issue are those of Margaret Ann Richardson and Delphas E. Mehlinger, May 9; Norma Jean Sandwell and Paul L. Hansen, May 9; Aleda Laurine Clark and Clinton Kaiser, May 1; Madeline Jane Mastek and John H. Anderson, May 3.

Lony Navrat, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Navrat, Pilsen, made the catch of the season Tuesday evening when he reeled in a 13-pound carp from the creek in the pasture of Mr. and Mrs. Enos Kapaun.
