E.J. Kelsey, 93-year-old Marion pioneer, is this city’s oldest father and he can look to 14 children, 54 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren on Sunday, Father’s Day.

George Baxter, young Marion farmer and aviation enthusiast, has been named seventh district chairman of the Flying Farmers organization.

A few loads of wheat came into elevators in the south part of the county Saturday and Monday, with the flood of full-time harvest expected later this week. The average yield of wheat so far this year is 25 bushels to the acre and it tests 61 to 63, with some a strong 64.

Quite a delegation of Marion folks drove over to Newton Wednesday morning to see President Truman as his cross-country train made a brief stop there—one of only three in the state.

Wanda Lou Propp was quite surprised on Tuesday when she received a check for $5 from the Pepsi Cola Company. She had entered their “Treasure Top” contest, finished the statement, and won one of the monthly prizes.

Seven students from Marion are among the 52 from Marion County enrolled for the 1948 summer session at Emporia State Teachers College. They are: Shirley Collett, Helen Hett, Rowena Loney, Theodore Loney, Bill Richardson, Anita Seifert, and Thomas D. Wheat.
