Al Richardson’s Novelty Shop changed ownership this week when he sold his popular gift, magazine and confectionary store on South Third Street to Mrs. Joe Thiel. The name will be changed to Fran’s Shop.

The tree-banding service, instituted last week by the Chamber of Commerce, has gone into high gear again this week. Hundreds of trees of the city are receiving treatment.

A kite-flying contest will be held March 26 at the Marion Country Club. The event, staged by the Kiwanis Club boys and girls committee, will feature contests between two groups, boys and girls under 12 and boys and girls over 12. Prizes will be awarded for both groups and in five different classes.

Almost every Sunday, weather permitting, four young men are busy helping rid the countryside of coyotes by aeroplane. Owners of the plane, both pilots, are Herman Bartel and Fred Domke of Marion. The two, air-going hunter friends are Marvin Kreutziger of Canada and Adolph Bartel of Hillsboro.

Junior Bledsoe was honored Saturday afternoon with a birthday party at his home. The following boys attended: Neil Hoopes, Laurence Priddle, Laird Helmer, John Price, Mark Childs Tommy Shirley, Richard Vogel, Junior Post, Greg Henry, Jimmie Christensen, Eugene Waner, Paul Schmersey, and Paul Ford.
