A number of prizes will be awarded this year for the best window displays in Marion business houses on Old Settlers Day. The windows must be decorated according to a set theme, which will be announced next week.

Adolph W. Schaeffler, well-known Hillsboro merchant passed away Friday evening at his home from a heart attack. This active businessman has been president of Schaeffler Mercantile Company since the retirement of his father in 1929.

Fifty-two rural schools with fifty-six teachers are making last minute preparations this week, getting ready for school to start next week.

SFC Robert Eugene Landes, 24, son of Mrs. Ernest Watchcoske of Peabody, was recently awarded the Silver Star medal as a result of duties performed while in combat with the First Cavalry Division in the Korea War zone.

“World’s Fair Revue” will be the theme of this year’s Community Guild banquet Sept. 5 in the City Building. All women of the community are urged to attend.

Marion County has been fortunate so far this summer in not having any infantile paralysis cases reported. However, Mr. and Mrs. John DeForest went to California this week to visit their son, Pfc. Jack DeForest, who has been taken ill with polio.
